2 1/2 c. brown sugar
1 c. butter
1 c. light corn syrup (Karo)
In a heavy sauce pan mix all ingredients. Heat until it comes to a boil, time for 7 minutes.
Then add:
1 can sweetened condensed milk
Bring back to boil for another 10 minutes.
Take off heat, add 1 t. vanilla
Dip apples in caramel and spoon caramel on the apple. When you take it out of the caramel, use a butter knife to "cut"/scrape the extra caramel off the bottom to get it to stop dripping. Put apples on waxed paper with sugar on it. Oh, make sure the apples are washed and really dried before you dip them. The caramel comes off if they are wet.
Once I have all the apples dipped in the caramel, I melt almond bark for about 1 minute and dip/spread it all over the apple. Then I sprinkle a combo of cinnamon and sugar on it. You can also use regular chocolate and put things like nuts, crushed Oreos, sprinkles, crushed candy bars, M&M's, pretty much anything.
