Sugar Cookies

1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter
2 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 t. vanilla
1 c. thin sour cream (can use 1 T. lemon juice & milk)
6-7 c. flour
3 t. soda
1 t. salt
1 t. baking powder
1 t. lemon rind

Cream together shortening, butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla.  In separate bowl, mix flour, soda, salt, baking powder and lemon rind.  Add to creamed mixture alternating with the thin sour cream (or milk and lemon juice).  Mix until soft dough forms.  Chill dough for 30 minutes before rolling.  Roll to 1/2" thick, cut with cookie cutters.  Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 5-7 minutes.  Frost.
